The Ship is Getting Crowed

The Tahrir is getting crowded, but that’s good! Journalists and film crews from around the world have now joined us. CBC TV, PressTV, Toronto Star and NOW Magazine, Danish TV, as well journalists from Israel, Belgium, Russia, Australia, Germany and more, all with satellite access.

And that is just our little ship — other Freedom Flotilla 2 ships are carrying many more mainstream media.

Truly, if the Israelis attack us, the whole world will be watching.

For our part, the CBG delegates on the Tahrir are wrapping up our non-violent resistance training and have moved onto logistical and strategic issues and associated training. These folks are well prepared, both physically and mentally, for what is possibly coming from the Israeli military.

I would be a fool to say that I’m not scared but Rosa Parks was probably scared sitting in the white section of that bus, the Freedom Riders on those 1960′s buses were likely scared and the Canadian Mac Pap volunteers heading to help free Spain in 1936 were likely scared too. But, like them, I’m not alone.

Over the past year I’ve spoken, in person, to thousands of Canadians from Victoria to Yellowknife to Halifax and around 20 other places in between and they are all sailing with us in spirit.

Remembering the murder and mayhem on the Mavi Marmara and thinking about what may happen on the Tahrir is frightening, but the vision of sailing into Gaza City is what keeps me going. We are going to get there, either on this Flotilla or the next one or the one after that. As the Free Gaza group says “We Sail Until Gaza is Free”.
