Four Days Left to Stop Troy Davis' Execution in Georgia
written by Press Release

Four Days Left to Stop Troy Davis' Execution in Georgia
A man is about to be executed in Savannah, Georgia, USA - and overwhelming evidence casts doubt about his guilt.

Please take a moment today to help prevent a grave injustice from happening.

7,000 Canadians have already called for Troy Davis's life to be spared, adding to hundreds of thousands of people around the world who have spoken out loudly against his pending execution.

Please add your name to this urgent appeal.

Troy Davis was given a death sentence in 1991 for the murder of a policeman on the basis of witness testimony - and seven of the nine original witnesses have since recanted or changed their testimony.

The State of Georgia Board of Pardons & Paroles holds the keys to Troy's fate.

On Monday, September 19 - just two days before Davis' scheduled execution date, this Board will hold a final clemency hearing - the last chance to prevent Troy Davis from being executed.

Troy has survived three previous execution dates because people like you have spoken out to prevent a gross injustice from occurring.

Here's what you can do to prevent the unthinkable from happening on September 21st:

Please sign Amnesty International's petition to the Georgia Board of Pardons & Paroles urging them to grant clemency.

Here are other ways you can help once you have signed the petition.
  1. Share the video: A trailer, then a 4-part video series, with interviews from witnesses, Amnesty International staff, and legal experts walks you through the incredible injustice committed against Troy Davis.
  2. Spread the word on social media. Tell others about this injustice on Twitter by using the hashtag #TooMuchDoubt. Be sure to tell your Facebook friends Troy's story too!
  3. Visit Amnesty's Abolish the Death Penalty blog to get the latest news on Troy Davis including rallies across Canada in coming days calling for a reprieve from execution.

Thank you for taking action for Troy Davis.

Our action could help save Troy's life.

Sincerely,

Alex Neve signature

Alex Neve, Secretary General
Amnesty International, Canadian Section

P.S. Amnesty International campaigns on behalf of hundred of individuals whose rights have been denied - prisoners of conscience, human rights defenders, and those like Troy whose life is at stake. Please join me in preventing a horrible injustice

P.P.S. The scheduled execution of Troy Davis, despite severe doubts about his guilt, has inspired opposition to his death sentence from a wide variety of prominent people. Three Nobel Peace Prize laureates (including former President Jimmy Carter and Archbishop Desmond Tutu) have called for clemency in this case, as has the Pope.
