This Week on GR
by C. L. Cook
This week: Conn Hallinan is an American educator and independent journalist. He ran
the journalism program at the University of California at Santa Cruz
for 23 years, and received the UCSC Alumni Association's Distinguished
Teaching Award, and the UCSC's Innovations in Teaching Award. He is also a winner of the prestigious Project Censored "Real News Award."
Hallinan
is a columnist at Foreign Policy in Focus, and is author of the news
analysis site, ' Dispatches from the Edge, where his latest piece, 'Juan
Cole: Ten Myths About Libya?' takes on the University of Michigan professor's
support of NATO intervention in Libya.
Conn Hallinan and getting behind the myths of the destruction of the Gaddafi regime in the first half.
Listen. Hear.
And;
last January, legendary journalist and author, John Ross died in
Mexico. Ross had reported with a rare ferocity injustice wherever he
found it, never relenting. And, he had the scars to prove it. I had John
on the show a couple of times over the last years, and in the second
half will pay him his overdue dues. John Ross, rebel to the roots in the
second half.
And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV
broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to
bring us news from the city's streets and beyond. But first, Conn
Hallinan and a Libyan regime change rejoinder.
It's a storyline as familiar as a Roman numeraled summer sequel: Evil dictator targeting "own" people must be stopped. International law and order just so much red tape; immediate action must take precedence.
Cue the Top Guns; ramp up the music.
And so it was Moammar Gaddafi, a bad guy no matter which way you spell it, has seen his forty two year reign in Libya come crashing to the ground. While the Hitler of North Africa is absent his bunker, no doubt he'll be hunted down and smoked out of his spider hole soon; and, should he survive the dead or alive, but preferably dead price put on his head, he can expect no better victor's justice than received by his evil predecessor Hitler, Saddam of Babylon did, a long drop at the end of a short rope.
Another great victory for NATO and triumph for democracy; or is it?
