Radioactive British Columbia: Collaborative Testing Begins in Wake of Ongoing Fukushima Nuclear Meltdown Disaster
written by Press Release

Collaborative Radiation Monitoring in Canada
Dear concerned citizens; I hope you saw last week's Georgia Straight story on "Fukushima Fallout", followed by this Thursday's story on our emerging collaborative radiation monitoring initiative

The key parts are
:

- citizen-based testing of samples (including soil, milk (incl. sheep, goat), breastmilk, rainwater and snowmelt, vegetables, seafood, seaweed, honey, etc).

- reporting of results on interactive website.

- continued requests for comprehensive, coordinated government radiation monitoring and public reporting.

- public information and awareness.

- support for Japanese people in highly contaminated areas.

The vision is a network of interested organizations and individuals, including scientists, active in the fields of public and environmental health, sustainable energies, food and agriculture, etc. across BC and Canada.

Most immediately, we need:

- volunteers to help develop and host website.

- individuals and organizations willing to collect, ship and pay for testing of samples in a certified Canadian lab (or sponsor one or more samples) , approx. costs are $200 per sample excluding shipping (detailed guidelines will be provided).

- help with fundraising and strategy development.

Please see our blog at http://changeagents2011.wordpress.com/home/ for more information and let us know if you can help out.

Thanks very much for your interest and support!
Isabel
