Murdoch Editor Rebekah Brooks Arrested

The New York Times is reporting Rupert Murdoch's former head of media operations in the U.K. has been arrested by British police.

A "former associate" to News International, the operation responsible for the telephone voice mail hacking scandal, confirmed Brooks had been "detained for questioning."

The Metropolitan Police says a 43 year old woman had been detained for questioning pertaining to the phone-hacking, and payments allegedly made to police officers.

Ms. Brooks resigned her executive position at News Corporation two days ago, and was expected to appear beside her bosses, Rupert and James Murdoch Tuesday to testify before a special Parliamentary panel.

Rebekah Brooks had previously denied knowledge of the phone-hacking conducted by reporters at News of the World (NoW) while she was the now defunct paper's chief editor.

In that hacking case, just one of thousands now revealed, NoW reporters managed to infiltrate the voice mail box of Milly Dowler, a 13 year-old schoolgirl abducted and later found murdered.

Reporters emptied mail messages, giving family, friends, and police investigators false hopes Dowler may have run away from home.

This is the latest development in an ongoing story that has seen the mighty News Corp. dragged across the front pages of competing papers and media, and thought to already have spiked Murdoch's bid to gain total control of England's largest independent television station, BSkyB.

BREAKING: Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson has resigned. Read his statement here.
