Not in My Voice: Someone at the CBC's Idea of a Joke
written by Chris Cook

Someone at the CBC's Idea of a Joke
by C. L. Cook
I listened to today's version of your program, and was appalled, if unsurprised, by the callous, and I would even say disgusting, opening by your depersonalized character known merely as 'The Voice.'

Announcing the birthday of embattled Libyan dictator, Gadhafi you offer this:

"Satire - It's Tuesday, June 7th. Muammar Gadhafi's 69th birthday. Canada's supplying the fireworks. CF-18s should arrive any minute... This is The Current."

It seems appropriate that this entity, 'The Voice' would lack any human signifier, as its comment lacks those characteristics making human existence meaningful; absent are compassion, pity, and the urge to see justice done for all.

Were your writers aware of the recent deaths by aerial bombardment of Gadhafi's grandchildren and son? Is this just a joke to you? What sort is the CBC hiring now that would treat the indiscriminate killing and maiming of civilians as fodder for comedy?

Your program in this instance displays the low-minded ignorance I expect of jingoistic shock jocks. I can abide those idiots because I don't listen to them, but I pay, as do all Canadians, for the CBC and I find that necessity, and your programing, increasingly difficult to stomach.

And, if you believe pasting the word "satire" above this hateful drivel makes it palatable, you are twice wrong.

Disgusting.

You can listen to what passes for wit at the CBC for yourself here.
