We'll leave the usual format today to discuss for the hour the prospects and probabilities presented to Canada by the fall of the Harper minority and dissolution of the 40th Parliament of Canada. Exactly one week from today, Canadians will go to the polls to elect the next federal government. At least, some 59% of eligible voters will, if the last election is any measure.

Last time around, rather than allow a minority coalition, the Governor General gave in to the Harper conservatives, allowing an early proroguing of the House, granting the government time to organize for a 2008 poll.

The 2008 election that followed proved yet again, Canadians do not sufficiently trust any of the contending parties enough to grant any one of them a clear majority.

After three consecutive minority governments, it seems the same holds true in 2011, with another minority predicted. But, the world has changed since 2008, and things in Canada have changed too.
