Teen Submissions to Sun's Earth Day Art Question
by C. L. Cook
I wouldn't read the Vancouver Sun if it was free, and I won't give them kudos for publishing the efforts of British Columbia teenagers, to whom the question was posed: "What does the environment mean to you?"
The 50 finalists' images are available to view at the Sun's website here, and I will give a nod to the judges for at least selecting what in at least one picture, Harkiran Sidhu's 'The Axes of Evil,' implicates the Sun directly for the savage deforestation for pulp of British Columbia's forests.
The majority of the images paint a bleak portrait of both our present, and the future of those who will inherit the fruits of environmental devastation wrought by ignorance and the capitalist economic system, and on the whole serve as a Cri de Coeur from the youth of the land.
