155th Canadian Soldier Killed in Afghanistan
Corporal Yannick Scherrer died Sunday in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack on his foot patrol in the town of Nakhonay, near Kandahar city, Afghanistan.

Hailing from Monteal, Scherrer was with the 1st Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment and
based in CFB Valcartier in Quebec, and on his first tour in the country.
The Montreal native, who was on his first tour of duty in
Afghanistan, was a member of the
Canadian Brig.-Gen. Dean Milner said of Cpl. Scherrer's death;
"Canadians can be proud of the progress our soldiers have
accomplished for the people of Kandahar province in Afghanistan. More
work remains to be done."
Scherrer was 24 years old.
Canada's prime minister, Stephen Harper expressed condolences, saying;
"We will forever be grateful for the sacrifice made by Cpl.
Scherrer."
According to Canada's state broadcaster, the CBC, Yannick is the 17th Canadian killed over the last year, five of which died in and around Nakhonay, with scores more wounded.
159 Canadians have died in Afghanistan since the country's involvement, beginning there in 2001, including: Two aid workers, a journalist, and one diplomat.
