Emergency Public Meeting to Save the Juan de Fuca Trail
written by Press Release

Emergency Public Meeting to Save the Juan de Fuca Trail
by Wild Coast.ca
Warning: The Capital Regional District's Land Use Committee is not listening to the people they're supposed to represent. If the committee vote were held today, the proposal for a massive resort and 270 vacation homes along the Juan de Fuca trail would PASS 4 to 1.

But our survey shows 92% of the people living in the Juan de Fuca area don't support new resort development. They're being ignored in favour of big resort developers and lots of empty promises.

What we need is protection for Juan de Fuca Park and the forestlands.

Tuesday, March 22, First Metropolitan Church,
932 Balmoral at Quadra, 7-9 pm

We only have a couple months to turn this around. That's why Forest Action Network, Dogwood Initiative, Wilderness Committee, Sea to Sea Greenbelt Society, Protect Our Parks, and Jordan River Steering Committee have joined together with local communities to form a super-group. Our goal: save the Juan de Fuca trail and restore sanity to land-use planning on the south Island.

This coming Tuesday, March 22, we're hosting an emergency meeting in Victoria that's open to everyone. Panelists will answer your questions about what this project means, how to stop it, and why it's connected to other plans to open up rural lands to sprawling developments. Join our panelists: former environment minister David Anderson, Royal Roads tourism professor Brian White, and Deborah Curran, lawyer with the Environmental Law Centre at UVic. All the CRD directors are invited. Meet like-minded people and get the latest info about creating a new land-use vision on southern Vancouver Island. Please pass it on!

Call on the CRD to safeguard rural lands and promote smart growth, not stupid sprawl. Tell the members of Land Use Committee "A" what you think about a moratorium on development.
