Addressing His Excellency, the Ambassador of Egypt to Canada
written by Press Release
Re: Palestinians Stranded in Cairo
by Terry Wolfwood
Dear Excellency; I am writing to express my concern about the hundreds of Palestinian men, women and children in Egypt who have been trapped at Cairo’s airport since Jan.25 this year.

H.E. Wael Ahmed Kamal Aboul Magd

Their condition is extremely difficult and getting worse each day. Most people do not have money for food or medicine. The vulnerable are getting sick; many are in urgent need of medical treatment. There are more Palestinians waiting elsewhere in Egypt to cross into Gaza.

We have learned that on Feb.8, the deposed government issued new travel regulations for Palestinians that took effect immediately and until further notice.  They  state that these categories of passengers are NOT allowed to enter Egypt, even if they are holding visa or security approval or resident permit including: holders of Palestinian passports, holders of Jordanian passports without a national number and those with travel documents for Palestinian issued by Egypt.

This is unacceptable. All the Palestinians at the airport and those using the Rafah Crossing, the only exit Gaza has to the external world, are civilians. Under the Geneva Conventions they are entitled to freedom of movement and protection from collective punishment.

The Egyptian people demonstrated courageously for human rights and democracy. Their demands are supported by all freedom loving people who also oppose the suppression of Palestinians by Israel. It is time for the new rulers of Egypt to annul the decision taken by the previous government and open the Rafah Crossing immediately so that people and goods can pass and that Palestinians will be free from confinement at the airport and that they may travel freely through Egypt to their destinations.

Yours in peace,
