They're Building a Wall in Egypt
by C. L. Cook
Arab broadcaster, Al Jazeera English (AJE) is showing pictures of Egyptian military trucks moving today into the centre of the Egyptian uprising, Tahrir Square in Cairo, carrying large concrete blocks. The military's aim, says Al Jazeera, is to wall in the square.
Night is now falling in the region (8pm local time), and thousands are in the streets and in the square, despite a government imposed curfew. AJE also reports their on the scene cameras have been seized and their correspondents arrested. Though the journalists were later released, there is limited coverage from the square.
The square is to be the focus of a planned, so-named Million Egyptian March tomorrow, part of a called for National General Strike.
Meanwhile, Hosni Mubarak remains, unmoved so far by popular calls for his regime's ouster.
