This Week on GR:
by C. L. Cook
Kevin Neish is a Victoria-based human rights activist who has travelled
to Palestine on numerous occasions to show solidarity for the
Palestinian cause, and to protest the deprivations, violence, and
criminality foisted on them by the state of Israel. His most recent
action in that pursuit culminated on the night of May 31st, 2010 on
board the Turkish cruise ship, Mavi Marmara, the scene of a lethal
assault by Israeli commandos that resulted in the murder of nine,
unarmed rights activists by the military.
Diana Beresford-Kroeger is a scientist, author, lecturer, and defender
of the wilds that remain. She is a botanist; medical and agricultural
researcher; and self-defined "renegade scientist" in the fields of
classical botany, medical biochemistry, organic chemistry, and nuclear
chemistry. Her book titles include, 'The Global Forest,' 'A Garden for
Life: The Natural Approach to Designing, Planting, and Maintaining a
North Temperate Garden,' 'Arboretum America: A Philosophy Of The
Forest,' and her latest, 'Arboretum Borealis: A Lifeline of the
Planet.'

And;
Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft
will join us at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with the
goings on on Victoria's streets and beyond.
Welcome to GR, etc. And welcome to the revolution! Across the middle-east, popular, and suspected orchestrated, mass movements are challenging the power structure.
The latest and most dramatic instance of this is of course in Egypt, where at time of writing, the regime of Hosni Mubarak is teetering on the verge of collapse. Mubarak has, with the blessing and financial complicity of the "international community" ruled as omnipotent dictator, imprisoning untold millions over the course of his thirty plus yer tyranny, torturing and killing Egyptians, and in this last years of globalized terror, serving as a one-stop shop of horrors for the United States and her allies to drop off those they wished "interrogated" by means their own national constitutions forbade.
But Egypt's greatest service to empire is and has been its role as proxy gate-keepers for Israel, manning the walls that maintain the brutal siege of Gaza, and by extension, Palestinian ambitions for a free society connected to the outside world.

Kevin Neish and the unflagging international efforts to end the siege of Palestine in the first half.
And; there is another, larger siege today. It is global in its scope, and poses a greater threat to the survival of humankind, and all species inhabiting this lonely world we all dwell upon.
Across the Earth, forests are falling. North and South, the great oxygenators are dying, and so too are myriad species, billions of creatures, that depend on the forests to survive. In the 1980's, the burgeoning environmental movements of the North focused on Brazil's destruction of the great Tropical Rainforests, overlooking for the most part the misuse and abuse of the wilderness in their own North, ignoring the ruination of the Great Boreal Forests.
