Canada/Israel Sign Security
Cooperation Agreement

Canada's defense minister, Peter MacKay emerged today, (Wednesday January 12th, 2011) from meetings in Tel Aviv with Israeli counterpart, Ehud Barak after reportedly signing a security cooperation agreement.

At the meeting's outset, Barak told Israeli newspaper Arutz Sheva;
"We are pleased to welcome here the Canadian Defense Minister Peter MacKay. Canada is a friend of Israel, Minister MacKay is a friend of Israel and he also initiated a very important conference held in Halifax on national security with people from all over the world."
Arutz Sheva reports an agreement was signed, though further details are yet forthcoming, quoting Ehud Barak saying;
"We expect continued cooperation with Canada in a series of domains: exchange of information, both in technology and in operations. We expect to expand the security relationship between Israel and Canada."
MacKay is scheduled to visit the West Bank and Jordan on his last day in the region tomorrow.
