DAVID BARSAMIAN SPEAKING ON THE CONTINUING
WARS IN
AFGHANISTAN AND IRAQ AT UVIC: On November 18th,
2010

Founder and director of Alternative Radio David Barsamian
will be speaking at the David Lam Auditorium at
the University of Victoria.
The lecture
will
begin at 7:00 pm and doors will be at 6:30 pm. This event is
a fundraiser for CFUV. Tickets will
be at the door and entry is by donation
on
the $5-8 sliding scale. No one will be turned
away.
In addition to his award winning broadcasting and
lectures, Barsamian has written numerous books on
prominent political figures, including
Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Eqbal
Ahmad, Tariq Ali, Arundhati Roy and
Edward Said. Most notably have been his
interviews with Noam Chomsky, famed
political dissenter, which were later transcribed into a
series of books.
His latest works include interviews with Chomsky on the
topics of the U.S. Iranian standoff (Targeting Iran)
and most recently discussions on central
issues in American foreign policy particularly the
ongoing occupations of
Afghanistan and Iraq (What We Say Goes: Conversations on
U.S. Power in a
Changing World).
He has won several prominent media
awards such as the Media Education Award, the ACLU's Upton Sinclair Award
for independent journalism, the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Award
and the Cultural Freedom Fellowship from the Lannan Foundation. He has
traveled and lectured extensively throughout the Middle East and was
recently named one of
the Top Ten Media Heroes by The Institute for Alternative
Journalism.
