It's About You, Me
and the Ocean
by Ingmar Lee
Hi all, having attended a 'PNCIMA "consultation" process here in
Shearwater BC, it was like having the sinister, icy breath of Stephen
Harper blowing onto this wild coast.
The "consultations" were plainly
old school manufacture of consent: Suddenly posted and videotaped
meeting, a rushed bogus intro by professional PR hack, guided breakout
"consultation" groups reinterpreted back to the assembly at the end.
All along this coast, there is no government bureaucracy that is
held in such unanimous contempt as DFO, and "PNCIMA" (sounds like a
venereal disease) is yet another layer of this hopeless, utterly corrupt
federal bureaucracy.
PNCIMA is entirely conceived and organized by
DFO!! PNCIMA purports to be for the protection of the coast, yet it
accepts Enbridge as a "legitimate stakeholder" in the process. Simply
put, PNCIMA will integrate all values with the dirty-oil tanker/pipeline
scheme.
At the meeting, they looked at me funny when I asked if me, being a
local resident who "uses" the area, could be recognized as a
"legitimate stakeholder" in the PNCIMA process.
NOT, apparently...
And a
month after the meeting, the local chair of the Chamber of Commerce
received the "follow-up result of PNCIMA's "widespread consultation"
-basically a hundred page package of indecipherable drop-dead boring,
DFO manufactured-consent bureaucratese. Nobody who is not being
handsomely paid to read that gobbledegook will ever bother to read it..
One other thing, -and which I think is very worrisome, - the Coastal
First Nations, -the same organization that speaks with a united voice
to oppose and condemn the Enbridge dirty-oil pipeline/tanker scheme,
-their logo appears on the cover of all PNCIMA propaganda.
I would advise that all BC environmentalists smell a big fat rat when they encounter PNCIMA propaganda.
Cheers, Ingmar
