Rabbit Killing Lawyer's Dog Goes on Rabbit Sanctuary Spree
written by Press Release
RABBIT KILLING LAWYER ATTACKS
ANIMALS ON SANCTUARY PROPERTY
by Roslyn Cassells
COOMBS, BC Monday Oct 4 2010 -  Horrified sanctuary volunteers and neighbours witnessed rabbit-killing lawyer Barb Smith today set her large black dog on sanctuary and pet rabbits on sanctuary property owned by the World Parrot Refuge and home to EARS rabbit sanctuary in Coombs, BC.

The dog chased the terrified former UVic rabbits and pet rabbits belonging to Susan Vickery around the front lawn and adjacent areas, finally catching a large pet rabbit called Joey, owned by Susan Vickery for many years.

After mauling the poor terrified rabbit to death the dog returned to Barb Smith with his bloody corpse dangling limply in his mouth.  Smith, the dog, and their victim returned to Smith's property.  Joey's little body was not returned to  Vickery.

Ministry of Environment officials are reviewing the incident with a view to charges under the provincial Wildlife Act which prohibits the harassment of wildlife, livestock, and domestic animals by dogs.  Distraught volunteers are in shock and disbelief over the incident, which follows Monday's shooting of between 20-30 escaped EARS rabbits and pet rabbits on Smith's property.
