Canadian Print Media Craps Out Again:
Globe and Mail Sack Columnist Salutin
by C. L. Cook
Greetings Mr. Stackhouse; I read with disappointment today of your
paper's firing of long-time columnist Rick Salutin. I understand, through
Murray
Dobbin's account of the sacking, there was no reason for the move
forthcoming to Mr. Salutin, whose near twenty years on the paper seem to count
for no consideration whatever.
Salutin: Canned without so much as "How do you do?"
I can't threaten you will lose a reader because of this; with the exception
of the Saturday edition, the G&M lost me years ago. I can only reiterate to
you what I say to my foreign friends when relating the sorry state of Canadian
print media: "You are a joke."
Today, thanks to your living up to our very low expectations, you and your
paper have Canadians mirthlessly laughing once again.
Sincerely,
Chris Cook
