News from Haiti Ending
September 12, 2010
by Haiti Solidarity BC
On September 8, a
report on CBC National Radio news by reporter Stephen Puddicombe began by
saying, "It's been eight months since the devastating earthquake in
Haiti, and very
little has changed."
One would hope and expect that this shocking observation would
lead the CBC to fully investigate why so little is seemingly being done to
assist
Haiti,
in contrast to the bold claims by the Canadian government to be assisting. But
reports of neglect are not new, and CBC news editors are surely aware of them.
To date, they have been sitting on their hands.
Similarly, no large
news agency in
Canada has
reported on the exclusion from the upcoming November 28 national election of
Haiti's largest
and most representative political party, the Fanmi Lavalas of exiled president
Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
Here are several of
the most recent news reports on the aid situation, as posted to the website of
the Canada Haiti Action Network:
* Just two percent of quake debris in Haiti cleared, by Tamara
Lush, Associated Press, September 11, 2010.
* The Drama of Haiti's
Internally Displaced, by Isabeau Doucet, in Haiti Liberté, August 11 and 25,
2010.
* Despite 'all that
money,' more than 1 million Haitians remain displaced by January earthquake, by Edward Cody, Washington Post, August 22, 2010.

consequences of the sham election scheduled in
