Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Brad Slade, Kenji Fuse, Janine Bandcroft Aug. 23, 2010
written by Chris Cook
This Week on GR
by C. L. Cook
This week: Brad Slade is a long-time labour activist and he's the Regional Organizer for the South Island and the Islands with Fight The HST. That campaign met all stated barriers by deadline, but the tax remains. Brad Slade back to look at the future of the HST in the first half.

Kenji Fuse is a member of the board of the Island Bio-Diesel Co-op, a struggling collection of dedicated fuel alternativists scheduled to meet with the minister responsible to seek a sensible redress to the Campbell government's regressive environmental policies. Kenji Fuse in the second half separating the gas from the reality of government environmental policy.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to keep us abreast of the goings on going on on Victoria's streets and beyond. But first, Brad Slade continuing the HST fight.

Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca.  He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com.

British Columbia is now ruled by the hated HST, or the Harmonized Sales Tax that kicked in July 1st. No matter what its defenders say, the HST is in effect a massive cash grab by an unholy alliance of federal and provincial regimes wo are widely recognized for their lack of responsiveness to the popular will. While it's clear, Canada's economy is in decline, as is the case in the rest of the western world, with more Canadians out of work, or facing the prospect of joblessness, Stephen Harper's federal Conservatives and Gordon Campbell's B.C. Liberals must find another way to fill their respective coffers, but is taking food off the forks of the poorest the best way to do it?

And; British Columbia's premier, Gordon Campell jetted to Copenhagen last year to receive an award for the "Green Initiatives" of his government here at home. Presented in a ceremony photographed for posterity, the premier accepted the accolade on the strength of the province's so-called Carbon Tax. In January of this year, the Carbon Tax took effect with some decidedly less than green effects.
