This week; Damien Gillis is a Vancouver-based documentary filmmaker and co-creator
of the new environmental and social justice website, TheCanadian.org. He's spent the last several years campaigning to put an
end to the Atlantic Salmon fish farming enterprises widely believed to
be behind the disappearance of wild Pacific Salmon on the coast.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV radio broadcaster, Janine
Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to keep us apprised of
events from Victoria's streetz and beyond. But first, Damien Gillis
recruiting for a second War in the Woods in Clayoquot Sound.
Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca. He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com.
Twenty years ago it was called the 'War in the Woods.' Thousands of British Columbians, and environmental defenders from around the world, took a stand against the logging of Clayoquot Sound on the wild west side of Vancouver Island. Nearly a thousand were arrested, very nearly matching the mass arrests seen in Toronto recently. The "war" made news across the planet, prompting the NDP government of the time to reconsider allowing the destruction of the Clayoquot. But that was then. Today, despite its designation as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, mining and logging interests are again banging on the door, but this time there are no thousands at the ready to defend against the further despoiling of another of the Island's dwindling pristine watersheds. Not yet.

And; in his seminal book, '1984' George Orwell wrote: "He who controls the present, controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future." With the year 1984 well in 2010's mirror, Orwell's warning could not be more prophetic. Today, as the planet grows smaller, we are collectively ruled by history as never before. It is a vision of the past allowing endless militarism, and unprecedented barbarism. It is a vision that is, as Michael Moore observed while collecting his Oscar award in the days before the launching of the current war and occupation of Iraq, a fiction.

His latest article challenges our current understanding of history, arguing it is time to revisit our recent past. Of that history, Atzmon says;
"To save the world and to bring peace about, we must learn our past and we must be free to [do] so. Revisionism is the means towards a better future."
