Toronto G20 Pushback
written by The Real News
Torontonians Gather at Police HQ
to Condemn Abuses
by TRNN
Toronto is just starting to deal with the aftermath of the events that took place during the G20 world leaders summit. For days, basic human rights protections were suspended, as police subjected people subjected to searches, excessive use of force, detention without due process, and other violations.

Toronto Chief of Police has said the actions were justified by the massive destruction that took place on Saturday afternoon, when people smashed storefronts to corporate franchises, banks, and torched police cars.

By Monday morning, over 1000 people had been imprisoned, of which more than 700 were never charged. Detainees have emerged from the jail, which is a converted film studio, with serious accusations against police, ranging from witholding food and water to sexual assault.
