Freeing Lori Berenson

News American political prisoner, Lori Berenson will be released by Peruvian authorities who have held her as a terrorist since 1995 was welcomed by her family today, May 26, 2010.

 

Lori's dad, Mark Berenson appeared on Democracy Now! reporting the news.

The Berenson's are en route to Peru now to help Lori and her one year-old son Salvador transition out of her near fifteen year incarceration.

In December of 1995, freelance journalist, Lori Berenson was arrested by Peru’s notorious secret police. A year later, she was convicted of treason by a secret military tribunal and sentenced to life in prison. That sentence was later overturned by the country’s Supreme Military Council and a retrial ordered.
