Rudd died while patrolling close to the village of Salavat, roughly 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City.
Larry Rudd was 26 years old, and a native of Brantford, Ontario.
Deputy Commander of Task Force Kandahar, Colonel Simon Hetherington said of Rudd;
"He was dynamic and motivated; generous and outgoing." [...] "And despite his intimidating size, he was considered the Gentle Giant within his squadron, within the armoured corps and certainly within his regiment."
Trooper Larry Rudd is the 150th Canadian, and 146th member of the Canadian Forces killed in Afghanistan since 2001. A diplomat, one journalist, and two Canadian aid workers have also been killed since Canada's military involvement in the Central Asian country.
