Save the Comox Valley from a Dirty Coal Mine

Save the Comox Valley from a Dirty Coal Mine
by Wilderness Committee
Join us on Tuesday, May 25 and find out how you can help stop a coal mine

Hello Wilderness Committee Supporters

Coal is the dirtiest of fossil fuels, and here in BC we are one of the world’s largest exporters. We are in the midst of a massive expansion of our coal industry at the very time we are claiming to be climate leaders. There are a lot of new coal mines proposed across BC-10 and counting at the moment- and these projects will not only end up spewing massive amounts of carbon pollution into the air, but they will have a negative impact on water quality, wildlife and human health.

One of the newly proposed coal mines is Raven Coal mine, located in the beautiful Comox Valley. This proposed mine, right in the heart of the Baynes Sound watershed, would extract 44 million tonnes of coal over a 20-year period. If allowed to go ahead, this mine will have a major impact on sensitive salmon habitat, the world famous Fanny Bay shellfish industry, local air and water quality, and carbon emissions associated with burning coal.

The good news is that we can stop this project. Local opposition is strong and growing, and by joining them we can help stop this coal mine before it starts. Want to learn how?  Join Ben West from the Wilderness Committee, Sarah Cox from the Sierra Club BC, researcher Arthur Caldicott, and John Snyder from Coalwatch Comox Valley to learn about how you can join the fight to save the beautiful Comox Valley from a dirty coal mine.

Tuesday, May 25 from 7-9 pm
Ambrosia Centre
638 Fisgard Street

Hope to see you there
