145th Canadian Forces Member Killed in Afghanistan

Colonel Geoff Parker was killed Tuesday in a suicide bomber's attack outside Kabul. Parker was in a convoy of NATO vehicles when it was rammed by a vehicle packed with explosives. Colonel Parker was among 18 killed in the attack.

Parker served with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment, and he is the highest ranking Canadian soldier so far killed in Afghanistan. Five American soldiers and 12 Afghani civilians were also killed.
 
Geoff Parker is survived by his wife and two children.

Prime minister Stephen Harper expressed his sadness at the news, saying;
 
"My sincere condolences go out to Col. Parker's family and friends, who should be extremely proud of his honourable service to his country," adding;

"On behalf of Canada, I also extend my sympathies to the families and friends of the five American service members and numerous Afghans who perished in the same attack."
