Salmon Are Sacred!
written by Press Release
Why I Care About Salmon
by Phil Carson
I am not one of the First Peoples whose very existence has been interwoven with the cedar, the bear, the eagle, the wolf, the orca, and the thousands of other dwellers of the sea, forest, and air to which Salmon have been so interconnected since time immemorial.

I am not a commercial fisher whose food is placed on my family table, both metaphorically and literally by Salmon.

I am not someone who was brought up on this beautiful coast where the joys of salmon fishing became as much a part of me as climbing in the mountains or building sand castles on the beach.

I am not a scientist who understands the subtle, intricate, and awe-inspiring nuances of the ecological interconnection between Salmon and the biological community of communities in which the co-exist.

Salmon Are Sacred!

My passion for Salmon was Love at First Sight.  Standing in the canyon of the Stamp River, Salmon literally jumped into my heart. Their beauty, their strength, their courage, their spirit, as they leaped through the raging waters to fulfill some primal need, touched something deep in my Soul.  That this seething force in this River of Life is a mainline to the Great Mystery is Truth to anyone who has ever witnessed a salmon spawn and who soul is not deadened by our artificial world.

Salmon Are Sacred!

On May Day, May First at 5pm at the Qualicum First Nations campground at the mouth of the Big Qualicum River there will be a Salmon Are Sacred Celebration to host Alexandra Morton and the folks who are migrating in from from Sointula,  all the Little Islands, Tofino, Port Alberni and points between to speak for the protection of Salmon.  There will be music, dancing, a pot-luck, a camp fire, a camp out, and a chance to make some wonderful new friends.  See you there!
