Happy Easter Monday. It's an extaordinarily holy week in the Holy Land, with both Eastern and Western Christian church calendars coinciding with Jewish Passover. One of Christianity's highest holidays, Easter is the remembrance of the suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus, the Lord Christ, Son of God and Redeemer of Man's sins.
Though little publicized, Palestine is also a land of Christians; a marked minority subject to many of the inequities Muslim Palestinian's must endure, in philosophy if not enforced to the same degree. Palestinian Christians are rarely considered a part of the bifurcation in Jerusalem, but this week, and Christmas, they make the news.
Over the weekend, tensions flared when Christians pilgirms attempting to observe at Jerusalem's holy sites were hindered; while Palestinian Christians, those tracing their citizenship in Jerusalem back to the time of Jesus, where warned off, many instead holding ceremonies in Ramallah. The religious tensions highlight the political powder keg that is Jerusalem, and the explosive potential mounting there in recent months.
