Last month, Tilikum the performing Orca turned on a trainer at San Diego's SeaWorld, repeatedly dragging the unfortunate woman to the bottom of the fish tank until she was drowned. It was not the first time Tillikum had killed. Tilikum, Victorian's may recall, was once an inmate of the now defunct Sealand of the Pacific. There he was implicated in the drowning death of another young trainer, unlucky enough to have fallen into the pool with Tilikum and fellow incarcerees, Nootka and Haida. The three Orca took turns tossing and towing the trainer to the bottom until she too died. That incident led to the transfer of the three whales to San Diego.

And; British Columbia's Fish Lake faces extinction. The Taseko mining concern has a plan to use Fish Lake, or Teztan Biny as local indigenous people would have it called, as a convenient tailings dump site. No worries, Taseko reassures the natives who hold the lake sacred, and other northern residents, they'll build an artificial lake for the community to take the place of the Fish.
