Vancouver Marches Against War and Militarism
written by Press Release
OPPOSE WAR AND MILITARIZATION, FROM AFGHANISTAN TO HAITI!
by Stopwar.ca coalition
This Monday, join an anti-war and anti-militarization moving spectacle in Vancouver to coincide with the staging of the 2010 Winter Olympics. This will be a festive and creative event demanding that the Canadian government respect and uphold human-rights, international law, the right to self-determination and civil rights.

When: Monday February 15th, 2010
Gathering at 6:00pm and leaving at 6:30pm
Meeting Point: Vancouver Art Gallery, Georgia side.

Organized by Stopwar.ca coalition

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games reveal the same pattern of militarization and anti-democratic acts as in other host cities and countries. StopWar is especially concerned with the militarization of Vancouver and Whistler during the Games, with its accompanying restrictions on the democracy and safety of our community. Enormous security resources are being deployed.

A hypocritical commitment of the Canadian government to peace has been revealed by the Olympic Truce pledge. The Canadian-sponsored Olympic Truce calls upon the world community "to cease hostilities during the Games and promote the ideals of peace through sport." Yet, Canada and other NATO countries have just launched the largest military offensive since their arrival in Afghanistan, on the same day as the opening ceremonies in Vancouver, no less!

Bring costumes, signs, banners and musical instruments! Join us in calling on the Canadian government to:
* End occupation and war crimes in Afghanistan
* Sign the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
* Send aid not militarization to Haiti
