This Week on GR
by C. L. Cook
This Week: Anthony Fenton is a Vancouver-based freelance journalist and author, whose book, 'Canada in Haiti: Waging War on the Poor Majority' explores the western aid paradigm and what it has meant for the people of Haiti and beyond. Anthony Fenton and looking at a disaster's back-story in the first half.

I went down to the Victoria demonstration to get my fair share of your views, where more than a thousand of our city's finest came out to let Stephen Harper know, in one instance at least, his absence has not made their hearts grow fonder of him. Into the streets with the No Prorogue mob in the second half.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom hour to keeps us current with the goings on going on on Victoria's streets.

Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca.  He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com. Nearly three weeks after the earthquake that devastated much of Haiti, rescue efforts have officially given way to so-called "recovery and rebuilding." By "recovery" though, it is not the recovery of the people, for no-one in the vaunted "international community" ever cared about them; what the thousands of military and police brought into Haiti under the auspice of disaster wish to recover is the comfortable sinecure of Haiti's powerful minority, a razor-thin elite whose ruthless rule over the nation's desperate millions ensured they barely survived before the life shattering earthquake of January 12th.

Largely abandoned now by the waves of international media who breezed through the cordon effectively holding back water, food, and medicines, the Haitian people at this hour are more miserable than they were a week ago. Call it the Katrina Effect if you like, but it is Katrina many times multiplied in the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

Anthony Fenton is a Vancouver-based freelance journalist and author, whose book, 'Canada in Haiti: Waging War on the Poor Majority' explores the western aid paradigm and what it has meant for the people of Haiti and beyond. Anthony Fenton and looking at a disaster's back-story in the first half.

And; as Canada's lurches along sans parliament, thousands of its citizens are not content to allow the cynicism of the prime minister prevail, or deter their efforts to make of this country a functioning example of democracy. Organized en masse through social media, on January 23rd they gathered in the towns, cities, and villages across this vast land to demonstrate to Mr. Harper and his No-Work party they are not the apathetic morons he believes them to be.

Of course, Mr. Harper can be forgiven his low opinion of an electorate that would endure he and his "Conservatives" this long; who else, he must wonder, but a nation of idiots would suffer that?

So, I went down to the Victoria demonstration to get my fair share of your views, where more than a thousand of our city's finest came out to let Stephen Harper know, in one instance at least, his absence has not made their hearts grow fonder of him. Into the streets with the No Prorogue mob in the second half.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom hour to keeps us current with the goings on going on on Victoria's streets; but first, Anthony Fenton and how did we come to Haiti?
