Yesterday in Victoria, the "bravest woman in Afghanistan" delivered her message to Canada. Joya is currently touring her book, co-written with Canadian activist, Derrick O'Keefe. Malalai Joya and a message from the edge of the imperial project in the first half.
And; last week, the Vancouver police announced they had acquired the latest in crowd control armaments; devices that may be better described as the implements of State tyranny. The British Columbia Civil Liberties Association confirmed the purchase of the Long Range Acoustical Device, or LRAD, ostensibly in preparation against trouble at Vancouver's upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics. While the safety of the widely used and abused taser weapon is yet to be independently assessed by the so-named 'Taser Committee' at least one police force in Canada has charged ahead to further bolster its anti-civilian arsenal.
