Hopes an Obama White House would address some of the ills suffered at the hands of the Bush administration are, in the Autumn of 2009, yet to be realized.

For the people of Gaza, Obama's inaugural year began with 'Operation Cast Lead' the orchestrated massacre of more than a thousand five hundred souls, and wounding and displacement of hundreds of thousands more.

This horror was conducted by America's close ally and the Harper administration's best friends in Israel. Since the obliteration, the Israeli Defense Forces enforced blockade of Gaza has not abated. As winter approaches, thousands are still homeless, and the suffering is allowed by Obama and his administration to go on. Continuing too, is the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Obama met with Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu recently, ostensibly to exert pressure on the leader to mitigate at least some of the most egregious violations of humanitarian law, but instead was rebuked for the temerity to question Israeli policies.

Jon Elmer is a freelance Canadian photographer and journalist who has lived in and reported from the West Bank and Gaza. He is the author of the websites FromOccupiedPalestine.org and JonElmer.ca. Jon is also the most frequently appearing guest here and is Gorilla Radio's authority on Palestine.

Jon Elmer for the hour today.

And, Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to keep us current with the goings on going on on our city's streets. But first, Jon Elmer and new beginnings in the ancient lands of Palestine.
