Hydro power built modern British Columbia, and today cross-border deals for more hydro power development risks Canadian water sovereignty. This according to agrologist and multi-award winning journalist Wendy Holm, who questions conventional wisdom in this country, saying "It is a commonly held belief that the greatest risk to Canada's water resources under NAFTA are related to exports. In fact, the more immediate area of public policy concerns is not water exports but water use in Canada by firms that are American or have US investors."
Wendy Holm and water worries in the first segment.
And; last week we tried unsuccessfully to hook up with Canadian freelance journalist Jennifer Moore. Jen was in Honduras watching the aftermath of the June military coup. We'll try again in the second segment.
And; last February, the Harper government announced it was to axe prison farms programs across the country over the next two years. Andrew McCann is an agriculture proponent with Urban Agriculture Kingston who says it is not too late to save the Correctional Service of Canada's Kingston's prison farm program and those others around the country. Andrew McCann saving the prison farm in the final segment.
And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us somewhere in the middle of all that to bring us up to speed with the saga of her continuing travels through the U.S.A. but first, Wendy Holm and the immediate threat to Canada's water sovereignty.
