Spring has come to Victoria...with a vengeance! Everywhere you look, aggressive shoots and leaves are busting from trees and soil, reaching for the sky. While birds and bugs feverishly seize the pleasant days to make their hay, the good gardening folk of the city plant and prune, water and weed. During the impossibly long ago passed winter, I spoke with two of the Garden City's intrepid rural agriculturalists, Rainey Hopewell and Margot Johnston. Rainey and Margot are the principals behind the Haultain Commons, a growing concern now busting out of its native beds in Fernwood and burgeoning across town. We'll catch up with Rainey Hopewell and Margot Johnston in the first segment.

And; not far beyond the manicured lawns and gardens of Victoria lay the wild Earth. There are few cities on this continent, or across the greater world, that can boast wildlife and wild lands in as near proximity as our little berg, but the current situation is not granted. Every day, the trees and watersheds, broad fields and secret wildlife refugeas on the lower island are shrinking, sacrificed to commerce and ambition. Zoe Blunt is a Langford-based freelance journalist, environmental activist and organizer for Wild Earth, the folks behind British Columbia's only action training camp.Wild Earth is ramping up for their July forest camp and other campaigns pertinent to preserving local lands. Zoe Blunt and getting ready the groundwork for the Wild Earth in the second half.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to brings uz up to speed with what's up on Victoria's streets; but first, Rainey Hopewell and Margot Johnston on the increasingly less uncommon notion of the Haultain Commons.
