Please Release Me: You, Me, and the SPP
written by Press Release
You, Me, and the S.P.P: Trading Democracy for Corporate Rule
by Paul Manly
What do secrecy, police provocateurs, an assault on democracy and infringements on citizens’ rights have in common? The Security Prosperity Partnership.

'You, Me, and the S.P.P' is a feature length documentary which exposes the latest manifestation of a corporatist agenda that is undermining the democratic authority of the citizens of North America. Two processes, the Security Prosperity Partnership (SPP) and the Trade Investment Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA) are rapidly eroding and eliminating standards, civil liberties, regulatory systems and institutions put in place over generations through the democratic process.

Proponents of the SPP say that it is needed to keep trade flowing. Opponents say, not only will it undermine the democratic authority of citizens, it threatens the sovereignty of the three NAFTA nations through the integration of military, security structures and regulatory regimes.

Here are a few quotes from the film.

“... after the shock of Sept 11 ... that crisis was expertly manipulated by our political leaders to push through a range of policies they actually had wanted to push through before Sept 11, but didn’t have the political conditions that made that possible.”
Naomi Klein, Canadian award-winning journalist, author of 'the Shock Doctrine'

“…if we go along with the Americans on their military, on their human rights, on their Patriot Act, on immigration and refugee policy, on energy, on all kinds of regulations over pesticides or whatever, then they will allow us access to their markets.”
Gordon Laxer, Director, The Parkland Institute, Alberta

“... what the SPP really represents is a parallel government, so that the important decisions are either made outside of parliament and outside of legislatures or they make it impossible for those kinds of decisions to be made in those legislative bodies, so that democracy is slowly being gutted.”
Murray Dobbin, Canadian author, journalist

“…take your mask off brother…. No, no, no, put the rock down man, put the rock down, this is our line!
Dave Coles,  President Communications Energy and Paperworkers union.

Dear Friends

Please share this with your lists

Last week I received my first 1000 copies of my finished documentary 'You, Me, and the S.P.P: Trading Democracy for Corporate Rule'. I mailed out over 200 copies to everyone on my list who had either donated to the project or pre-purchased a film. Thank you all for your support! I also sold 600 copies to CUPE BC, which they gave to every delegate at their convention last weekend.

A DVD copy of the film can be ordered on my website at http://manlymedia.com/documentaries/trading-democracy-for-corporate-rule  or
www.youmespp.com There’s a description of the film below if you’re not familiar with what the film is about.

I need your help.

Please help me spread the word about this film and create a buzz. Write about it, blog about it, twitter about it, digg it, share the DVD with friends and neighbors, order copies for your organization and local library, screen it in your community.  If you would like to order a copy with Public Performance Rights for screenings, a public library or school or if you would like bulk copies to distribute within your organization, to give to politicians etc., please feel free to contact me directly to arrange special pricing.

I’m still raising funds for promotion and marketing and to create a version with a French translation and close captioning. If you would like to donate to this endeavor and have your name or logo added to the credits of the new version please visit the website www.youmespp.com or contact me directly.

I’ve started a facebook group if you want to comment on the film.

If you’re a journalist and want to review this or know a journalist who should review this film let me know and I can send along a promotional copy.

One last note: This film was made with an extremely low budget and barrels of my own sweat equity. I spent two years making this film and earned very little while I was doing it. This DVD is copyright material but not copy protected. There is no FBI warning and I’m not going to police you. I want people to see this film but I also want to be paid fairly for my efforts. Please encourage people to purchase rather than copy the film. If you hold public screening ask for donations and share the proceeds with me. I want to be able to continue to do this work but I can’t do that unless you help me by respecting the value I put into it.

Thank you for all your support.

cheers
Paul Manly
