Canadians are hitting hard the invisible barrier standing between what they would like to believe their nation represents and what it actually does at home and around the world. While the barring of British MP and peace activist George Galloway is an embarrassment, it is just the tip of the proverbial ice berg when considering the pernicious influence of Canadian government policies and Canadian corporate practices. Jen Moore is a Canadian freelance journalist currently living in and reporting from Ecuador, where Canadian mining interests are bringing a Hell on Earth to the locals. Jen Moore in the in the first segment.
And; while the Canadian government uses its draconian anti-terrorism laws to prevent entrance into the country of those opposing its prosecution of illegal foreign wars, they are too using the threat of prosecution under those same statutes against Canadians trying to assist a fellow citizen wrongfully accused and imprisoned in his native country. Mary Foster is an organizer with the People's Commission Network, a Montreal-based organization monitoring and opposing the imposition of the "national security agenda." Mary Foster and the case of Abousfian Abdelrazik in the second segment.
And; while Stephen harper's 'New Canadian Government' disapproves of peace activists visiting the country, the doors swung wide on St. Patrick's Day for torturer-in-chief George W. Bush's trip to Calgary. Hundreds came out to protest Bush's presence, and to demand the police arrest the former president for credible charges of torture, as demanded by Canada's ratification of the International Torture Convention. Indigenous activist, Splitting-the-Sky was there, but when he asked the Calgary police to follow the law of the land, he was instead arrested. Splitting-the-Sky and obstructing who's justice in the third segment.
And; Janine Bandcroft will join us near the bottom of the hour to keep us apprised of the shelter crisis and other happening on the streets of our fair burg. But first; Jen Moore and digging up the dirt on Canadian mining in Latin America.
