This Week on GR
by C. L. Cook
This week, Pratap Chatterjee of CorpWatch.org on his new book, 'Halliburton's Army: How a Well Connected Texas Oil Company Revolutionized the Way America Makes War'; Richard Boyce of Island Lens on the plunder of Vancouver Island's ecosystem by greed head private equity firm, Island Timberlands, now logging into the Nanaimo region watershed; and, Janine Bandcroft keeps us current on Victoria's ongoing shelter crisis.
Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca. He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com.
The hands of time never cease, and while the news coming from Iraq suggests the days of America's war and occupation are coming to an end, the new era of the corporate occupation are just beginning. This is true for both Americans and Iraqis, and all the people caught between the two. Pratap Chatterjee is an investigative journalist, and managing editor of CorpWatch, an organization dedicated to: "...exposing corporate violations of human rights, environmental crimes, fraud and corruption around the world." He's the author the books, 'Iraq: Inc..: A Profitable Occupation,' "The Earth Brokers,' and the reecently released, 'Halliburton's Army: How a Well Connected Texas Oil Company Revolutionized the Way America Makes War.' Pratap Chatterjee in the first half.
And; the greed that has taken over on Vancouver Island is not limited to corporations; private equity firms too are cashing in, and like their corporate cousins, there seems no sating the beast's hunger for profit at the expense of the forest. In February, Richard Boyce, noted island film maker, naturalist, and author of the website, Island Lens reported Island Timberland helicopters were logging an island in the middle of the Englishman River. The area is part of a vital watershed that continues to be degraded to serve the interested of Island Timberlands equity partners, Brookfield Asset Managment Inc. Richard Boyce and voices coming out of the wilderness in the second half.
And; Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to keep the spotlight focussed on Victoria's continuing shelter crisis and the latest efforts of the City of Victoria to dither, deny, and delay dealing with the issues at hand and the extreme hardship endured by our fellow citizens. But first, Pratap Chatterjee on inheriting Iraq, and how Obama will deal with Halliburton's Army?
G-Radio is dedicated to social justice, the environment, community, and
providing a forum for people and issues not covered in the corporate
media.
