This week, author and journalist Lila Rajiva on Mobs, Messiahs, and Markets; Susan Howett from the Council of Canadians National Water Campaign on attempts to take Alberta's Bow River; and Janine Bandcroft brings us up to speed on all that's good to do in and around Victoria this week.

Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca. He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com, and check out the GR blog at:

With the crashing of the U.S. real estate boom, and the plummetting of the greenback, it seems the American imperial project has passed the Hallelujah! phase.

Though the old familiar phrase, "Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition" is still au courant on the Potomac, a less evangelical analysis of the economy in 2007 reveals the terrific damage George W. Bush's administration has wreaked on the United States, and worse yet, according to economists not affected by ebullient faith in the leader's infallible course, we're yet to see the worst of it.

Lila Rajiva is an author and journalist whose titles include: 'The Language of Empire: Abu Ghraib and the American Media,' and her most recently released, and New York Times best-selling 'Mobs, Messiahs and Markets,' co-authored with William Bonner.

Lila's essays are frequently featured online at Counterpunch, Dissident Voice, Common Dreams, Lew Rockwell, and Alternet, among many other sites. Lila Rajiva and mayhem in the marketplace in the first segment.

And; the relentless push to commodify all aspects of existence continues apace in Canada. The latest conspiracy to make of we citizens nothing more than mortally dependent slaves to commerce is currently unfolding in Alberta, where water rights are the subject of "amendments" the Council of Canadians fear are the big toe in the door to water privatization in this country.

Susan Howett is a National Water Campaigner following developments concerning southern Alberta's crucial Bow River for the Council. Susan Howett and whither the future of our water? in the second half.

And; Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with all that's good to do in and around Victoria in the coming week.

But first, Lila Rajiva on surviving the public spectacle of Mobs, Messiahs, and Markets.
