This Week on GR
by C. L. Cook
American Political activist extraordinaire, David Swanson on American fascism then and now; Dani Ruben on the grinding case of environmental prisoner of conscience, Tre Arrow and his fight to stay in Canada; and Janine Bandcroft brings us up to speed with some of the good things to do in and around Victoria in the coming week.
Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca
What is old is new again: The marching orders for the
emerging American fascist state are in place.
Like the infamous Project
for a New American Century plans we've seen enacted since 9/11, all
that is necessary now to plug in the New Reich is a "catalysing event"
to set the whole ugly process in motion.
But the urge to make of the
U.S. a Hitlerian utopia is no recent manifestation; it has a long and
illustrious pedigree, one leading straight to the White House.
David
Swanson is the Washington director of Democrats.com and ImpeachPAC.org.
He is co-founder of the group, After Downing street.org and creator of
Meet with Cindy.org.
David Swanson and George W. Bush following a
family tradition in the first half.
And; for many Americans,
Canada is seen as the haven for draft-dodgers and political prisoners
persecuted within the United States it was under Prime Minister Pierre
Trudeau. But sadly, this is not the summer of love, and the warm
sentiments the federal government may have once held for democratic
dissenters and the oppressed is long past.
Today, there are several
high profile cases waiting to be heard regarding both American and
Canadian citizens the U.S. would like to see extradited.
Right here in
Victoria, at the Wilkinson Road Prison, Tre Arrow, an American
environmental activist, has languished more than three years to stave
of his extradition to face American Justice.
Dani Ruben is a
Victoria-based environmental and human rights activist connected to the
Tre Arrow support group here, and he'll join us in the second half to
report on the latest developments in Tre's case.
And; our own
travelling Janine Bandcroft will check in from Edmonton to bring us up
to speed on her summer travails, and some of the good things you can
get up to in and around Victoria in the coming week.
But first, David
Swanson and peering beneath the branches of the Bush family tree.
