Zoe Blunt is a Victoria-based journalist and champion of B.C.'s wild environment. I paid a visit to the tree-sit yesterday to attend a rallying picnic and speak to some of the forest defenders gathered there. B.C.'s new War in the Woods in the first half.

And; is America at the end of its imperial road? Chalmers Johnson, author and former agent of the government of the United States of America thinks so. Johnson's newly released book, 'Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic,'  completes his trilogy chronicling the end days of America's Century, accompanying 'Blowback,' and 'The Sorrows of Empire.' Chalmers Johnson and 'Evil Empire: Is Imperial Liquidation Possible for America?' in the second half.

And; Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with all that's good to do in and around Victoria in the coming week.

The war once thought won in the woods of British Columbia is on again in Victoria. At stake now are the few wild spaces surviving development in the city's outskirts, where automatic green lights from Langford and like-minded councils for the rampant construction of box stores, golf courses, and their attending condominiums threatens the Highlands' last remaining forested areas.

Worse are the plans for yet another East-West highway interchange to better serve the thousands of motor-dependant arrivals expected to occupy the planned hundreds of condos that will usurp the felled forest. Today there will be, as there has been these last months, people camped high in the canopy of one doomed forest patch, determined to remain unmoved, daring the bulldozers and their masters at Langford City Hall to destroy their strategic position.
