Gorilla Radio for Monday, April 30th, 2007
written by Chris Cook
This week on GR; Bruce Wallace of VIPIRG and Victoria's seasonal cruise ship blues; Shawn Hlookoff Standing for Peace; and Janine Bandcroft brings us up to speed with some of the good things we can get up to in and around Victoria this week.

Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca .  He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com . And, you can check out the GR blog at:  http://GorillaRadioBlog.blogspot.com

Last week saw the first sea-going leviathan berth here in humble little Victoria. Yes, it's Cruise Season again! Massive ships, carrying thousands of passengers and crew are due to settle, for a short time, in our city commencing now until the Fall. And while these cities of steel stay they will spew fumes continuously into our air, while drawing untold thousands of gallons of water from our reserves. And, what does it get us? Bruce Wallace is Research Coordinator for the Vancouver Island Public Interest Research Group, and a contributing author to the VIPIRG study of the local impacts of the cruise ship industry, 'Ripple Effect,' Bruce Wallace in the first half.

And, if you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything! War, and rumours of it are all abounding us these last last terrible years. But what does it mean? Shawn Hlookoff is a Canadian musician, carrying his message of peace to those hailed as the reasons "we" fight, the little children. Shawn will be in town next week, on tour to promote the peace; Shawn Hlookoff in the second half.

And, Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with all that's good to do in and around Victoria in the coming week; but first, Bruce Wallace and finding shelter from the tourista storm.
