This
group has been formed to educate the public about the hypocrisy of one
of Canada's biggest financial institutions claiming to be "green." While
its branches are touted as carbon neutral, Vancity has been promoting
investments in the Tarsands.
[As a member of VanCity I felt ashamed to discover, among its "ethical" investment portfolios on offer to members was included Enbridge, the pipeline company responsible for so much environmental devastation already, and poised to wreck havoc on the ecology of British Columbia's coast, forests, and river riparian areas with a planned pipeline to run from Alberta's Tar Sands to Kitimat. I quit TD bank because of its odious investment policies, now I guess I'll be looking for another credit union. (People's Bank anyone?) -ed.]
