C.B.C. Radio in the Service of Whose Interest?
written by Ingmar Lee

On the Subject of the Gitxsan/Enbridge Issue
by Ingmar Lee
Here is a letter I wrote to CBC Daybreak North today (December 22, 2011) about its framing of this issue:

Dear Daybreak North and Pamela McColl; I was once again disturbed with this morning's CBC news coverage of the Gitxsan/Enbridge issue.

Newsreader McColl continues to describe the Gitxsan Nation as being "divided" over the recent scam that has emerged, whereby the day after more than 130 First Nations across the province declared their "Wall of Opposition" to the Enbridge scheme to pipe dirty-oil from the Alberta Tar Sands across BC to a tanker port here on the west coast, the corporate media instead swarms to the story of a lone rogue sellout, -using this to suggest cracks in this massive FN solidarity.

Instead of reporting on the obvious, underhanded sleaze whereby Enbridge skulks around BC First Nation communities seeking out single rogue sellouts who will backstab their communities and cut secret deals with the giant pipeline corporation, CBC continues to frame the issue as though there is actually division amongst the Gitxsan over this issue.

Here is a Press Release from a clear majority of Gitxsan Chiefs denouncing Enbridge and its  secret backroom deaings. http://gitxsanagainstenbridge.com/

Does CBC not read Press Releases from the Gitxsan Nation? Is there some directive from Harper Inc. that sets out your framing of this issue?

It is very concerning to observe the very crafty and slick PR framing that is attempting to manufacture consent for this planet-killing project and we appeal to the CBC to provide realistic coverage that respects the significantly overwhelming oppostition to the Enbridge Gateway project that exists amongst all of the peoples of BC.

Thanks, and Happy Solstice.
