This Week on GR
by C. L. Cook
This week; Raincoast Conservation's Executive Director, Chris Genovali on British Columbia's oil future; Peter Bardon and Peggy Frank on positively Africa's community support work in southern Africa; Janine Bandcroft brings us up to speed on all that's good going on in and around the lower island in the coming week.
Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca. He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, www.pacificfreepress.com. Check out the GR blog at: http://GorillaRadioBlog.blogspot.com
For nearly thirty years, British Columbia's irreplaceable coast has been protected from the risk of instant and irrevocable destruction by a major oilspill like the infamous Exxon Valdez. This protection has been afforded through the aegis of a tanker traffic and oil and gas drilling moratoria put in place by federal government. Now, that ban is being challenged by the provincial Liberal party and is not likely to be defended by a Harper government, majority or otherwise, in Ottawa.
Chris Genovali is Executive Director of Raincoast Conservation, a B.C.-based, independent environmental research and advocacy organization. Chris Genovali and stemming Big Oil's ambitions for passage and exploration along the British Columbia coast in the first segment.
And; in 2005, a pair of Victorians travelled to southern Africa to see firsthand how communities in Rwanda and Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and South Africa were coping with the AIDS pandemic. That journey became the kernel of positively Africa, a non-profit society now boasting more than 30 projects across six African nations.
Peggy Frank and Peter Bardon are the two local intrepids who launched and sustain positively Africa and they will join me to discuss their ongoing efforts to assist Africans in need in living with hope and dignity. Peter Bardon and Peffy Frank in the second half.
And; Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with all that's good going on in and around the south island in the coming week. But first, Chris Genovali and B.C.'s oil future.
