Dr. Climate and Prize Exploitations

Andrew Weaver's blatant stumping for Campbell
by Ingmar Lee
Hi all, if anyone has any doubts about Dr. Andrew Weaver's Neocon political persuasion, here's a recording of Weaver's mass-phone-out in Victoria-Beacon Hill on the day before the election:

It is truly embarrassing and bizarre to see an acclaimed Nobel climatologist exploit his prize by stumping for the Campbell regime. With Weaver's help, the Campbell regime was so confident in its corporate-media and ENGO-sycophant victory that it brazenly featured its grotesque "Energy Corridor" scheme among the major planks in its platform.

by Ecological Internet (EI)
We are on the vanguard of biocentric thought and action sufficient to achieve global ecological sustainability. For over 10 years we have run the world's largest, most used and effective Earth Action Network and environmental portals, entirely funded from the generosity of our network members.
It is time for our yearly mid-year fund raiser where we must raise $50,000 over the next six weeks to continue advocating for the Earth.
Fresh off victories in the Ivory Coast and U.S Pacific Northwest, EI is currently engaged in campaigns to end industrial agrofuel's rainforest damage and expose FSC greenwash of primary forest logging, and is poised to confront REDD carbon/forest proposals which claim first time industrial logging benefits the climate.
No environmental group knows and takes ecological science more seriously, and works more diligently and consistently for the suite of ecological policies -- including ending old forest logging, coal and tar sands -- required to avert global ecosystem collapse.

Oh Say, Can't You See? American Torture and Amnesia

Why We Can't See the Trees or the Forest: The Torture Memos and Historical Amnesia
by Noam Chomsky
The torture memos released by the White House elicited shock, indignation, and surprise. The shock and indignation are understandable. The surprise, less so.
For one thing, even without inquiry, it was reasonable to suppose that Guantanamo was a torture chamber. Why else send prisoners where they would be beyond the reach of the law -- a place, incidentally, that Washington is using in violation of a treaty forced on Cuba at the point of a gun? Security reasons were, of course, alleged, but they remain hard to take seriously. The same expectations held for the Bush administration's "black sites," or secret prisons, and for extraordinary rendition, and they were fulfilled.

More importantly, torture has been routinely practiced from the early days of the conquest of the national territory, and continued to be used as the imperial ventures of the "infant empire" -- as George Washington called the new republic -- extended to the Philippines, Haiti, and elsewhere. Keep in mind as well that torture was the least of the many crimes of aggression, terror, subversion, and economic strangulation that have darkened U.S. history, much as in the case of other great powers.

Accordingly, what's surprising is to see the reactions to the release of those Justice Department memos, even by some of the most eloquent and forthright critics of Bush malfeasance: Paul Krugman, for example, writing that we used to be "a nation of moral ideals" and never before Bush "have our leaders so utterly betrayed everything our nation stands for." To say the least, that common view reflects a rather slanted version of American history.

Bigger, Bloodier, Badder: Obama

Bigger, Bloodier Wars Equal Peace and Justice
by James Petras
"The Deltas are psychos. You have to be a certified psychopath to join the Delta Force", a US Army colonel from Fort Bragg once told me back in the 1980's. Now President Obama has elevated the most notorious of the psychopaths, General Stanley McChrystal, to head the US and NATO military command in Afghanistan.
McChrystal's rise to leadership is marked by his central role in directing special operations teams engaged in extrajudicial assassinations, systematic torture, bombing of civilian communities and search and destroy missions. He is the very embodiment of the brutality and gore that accompanies military-driven empire building. Between September 2003 and August 2008, McChrystal directed the Pentagon's Joint Special Operations (JSO) Command which operates special teams in overseas assassinations.

The point of the 'Special Operations' teams (SOT) is that they do not distinguish between civilian and military oppositions, between activists and their sympathizers and the armed resistance. The SOT specialize in establishing death squads and recruiting and training paramilitary forces to terrorize communities, neighborhoods and social movements opposing US client regimes.

Terminal: A Disease Called 'War'

The Disease of Permanent War
by Chris Hedges
The embrace by any society of permanent war is a parasite that devours the heart and soul of a nation. Permanent war extinguishes liberal, democratic movements. It turns culture into nationalist cant. It degrades and corrupts education and the media, and wrecks the economy. The liberal, democratic forces, tasked with maintaining an open society, become impotent.
The collapse of liberalism, whether in imperial Russia, the Austro-Hungarian Empire or Weimar Germany, ushers in an age of moral nihilism. This moral nihilism comes is many colors and hues. It rants and thunders in a variety of slogans, languages and ideologies. It can manifest itself in fascist salutes, communist show trials or Christian crusades. It is, at its core, all the same. It is the crude, terrifying tirade of mediocrities who find their identities and power in the perpetuation of permanent war.

It was a decline into permanent war, not Islam, which killed the liberal, democratic movements in the Arab world, ones that held great promise in the early part of the 20th century in countries such as Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Iran. It is a state of permanent war that is finishing off the liberal traditions in Israel and the United States. The moral and intellectual trolls—the Dick Cheneys, the Avigdor Liebermans, the Mahmoud Ahmadinejads—personify the moral nihilism of perpetual war. They manipulate fear and paranoia. They abolish civil liberties in the name of national security. They crush legitimate dissent. They bilk state treasuries. They stoke racism.

“War,” Randolph Bourne commented acidly, “is the health of the state.”

Of Circus Dogs and Whips: UN Reports on Gaza Atrocity

Beholden to the BIG POWERS: Israel, Gaza and the UN
by Media Lens
On December 27, 2008, Israel launched Operation Cast Lead, a massive assault on Gaza. 22 days later, around 1,400 Palestinians, including over 300 children, and 13 Israelis were dead; about 5,000 Palestinians were wounded.
Five of the estimated 300 children killed by Israel in Gaza - January '09
Israeli forces bombed and shelled schools, medical centres, hospitals, ambulances, United Nations buildings (including UN schools), power plants, sewage plants, roads, bridges and civilian homes. This was described in much of the press as hitting "Hamas targets" (e.g. David Gardner, 'U.S. accused of white phosphorus against Taliban', Daily Mail, May 11, 2009).

Earlier this month, the UN announced the results of an inquiry into attacks on its buildings and personnel in Gaza. It concluded that the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) were:

"involved in varying degrees of negligence or recklessness with regard to United Nations premises and to the safety of United Nations staff and other civilians within those premises, with consequent deaths, injuries, and extensive physical damage and loss of property." (Donald Macintyre, 'UN retreats after Israel hits out at Gaza report', Independent, May 6, 2009)

The Pope Pilgrim's Progress in the Holy Land

Pope’s ‘Pilgrimage’ Mired In Politics
by Jonathan Cook -
Nazareth: Pope Benedict XVI upset the schedule on his first day in Israel by leaving an interfaith meeting in Jerusalem early on Monday night after a leading Muslim cleric called on him to condemn the “slaughter” of women and children in the recent assault on Gaza.

The pontiff walked out, a spokesman noted, because Sheikh Tayseer Tamimi’s speech was a “direct negation” of dialogue and damaged the Pope’s efforts at “promoting peace”. Before he arrived in the region, the Pope declared that he was coming as a “pilgrim of peace”, with his staff accentuating that his role would be spiritual rather than political.

In truth, however, Pope Benedict’s visit was mired in politics the moment he agreed, at the invitation of Shimon Peres, the Israeli president, to step into this conflict-torn region.

American Psycho on the War Path

American Psychos Trying to Pervade the World
by MNN
A psychopath is chronically immoral and anti-social, covered by a mask of sanity and always searching for victims.  U.S. movers and shakers who are trying to gain control of the world come from an elite background.  Many go to the northeastern U.S. schools like Harvard, Princeton and Yale.
They get jobs on Wall Street in Manhattan and Washington DC.
The spirit of mad George Yellowhair Custer persists to this day in U.S. policy
By day they work in top jobs.  They make their way up into behind-the-scenes positions where they carry out the will of those who are trying to set up the new world order system.  This eventually includes forays into brutal violence and blood lust against defenseless unarmed people.  Their bizarre initiations include killing innocent people at random.  The end game is total control.

Psychopaths have to look normal to cover up their vile nature and training.  They have no morals or ethics which frees them to carry out genocide, starvation, spreading pandemics and desecrating the environment.  When they are confronted with their crimes, they maintain a studied blandness.

Psychopaths are possessive, greedy, have no deep feelings, no ties and are manipulators.  They have no conscience.  They start out with small simple crimes.  This is not enough.  They graduate to mass murder.  It's like a mad dog that has eaten human flesh.  He stepped over the line and therefore has to be shot.

Psychopaths like to talk about their activities, such as depopulating the world, creating one world government and one world religion, with them running it.  There is no one world order without one world religion!

American War Criminals Past Welcome Obama into the Club

Caught in a Lie: US Uses Phosphorus Weapons in Afghanistan
by Dave Lindorff
When doctors started reporting that some of the victims of the US bombing of several villages in Farah Province last week—an attack that left between 117 and 147 civilians dead, most of them women and children—were turning up with deep, sharp burns on their body that “looked like” they’d been caused by white phosphorus, the US military was quick to deny responsibility.
The use of White Phophorus, as pictured being deployed against civilian areas of Gaza by the IDF in January of '09, and as US forces used in Falluja and Afghanistan is a war crime.
US officials—who initially denied that the US had even bombed any civilians in Farah despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, including massive craters where houses had once stood—insisted that “no white phosphorus” was used in the attacks on several villages in Farah.

Official military policy on the use of white phosphorus is to only use the high-intensity, self-igniting material as a smoke screen during battles or to illuminate targets, not as a weapon against human beings—even enemy troops.

Now that policy, and the military’s blanket denial that phosphorus was used in Farah, has to be challenged, thanks to a recent report filed from a remote area of Afghanistan by a New York Times reporter.

US Media & the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Peace, Propaganda & The Promised Land: US Media & The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land is a film that provides a comparison of U.S. and international media coverage of the crisis in the Middle East, zeroing in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage have reinforced false perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

This pivotal documentary exposes how the foreign policy interests of American political elites--oil, and a need to have a secure military base in the region, among others--work in combination with Israeli public relations strategies to exercise a powerful influence over how news from the region is reported.
