This Week on GR
by C. L. Cook
This Week: Welcome to Summer! Summer is always a tough time to get interviews lined up, and this week, for the first time in a long time, I came up with zilch, zero, nada, not a thing. But, and it's a big but, the world keeps turning, and while our Canadian senators and members of Parliament have been holidaying, earth shaking, and largely unreported, issues and stories abound.

So, for the next hour, I'll fart, AND tapdance, and try to cover some of this wide, wide world's pertinent stories.

Bejoining me in this endeavor, as is often the case, will be Victoria Street Newz publisher, and CFUV broadcaster in her own right, Janine Bandcroft. She'll be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us news from our fair city's streets and beyond.

Chris Cook hosts Gorilla Radio, airing live every Monday, 5-6pm Pacific Time. In Victoria at 101.9FM, 104.3 cable, and on the internet at: http://cfuv.uvic.ca.  He also serves as a contributing editor to the web news site, http://www.pacificfreepress.com. There's been a lot of whingeing this year; the weather has been unseasonably cool, though too dry to keep the forests from drying out. It's been a cool season those along the eastern side of North America may envy, where temperatures above 35 celsius this year are routine, and humidity has literally been a killer. But over the last few days, and forecast into the rest of this week at least, Summer is here.

I mention this only because, as when most people discuss the weather, I've little else to say.

Bejoining me in this endevour, as is often the case, will be Victoria Street Newz publisher, and CFUV broadcaster in her own right, Janine Bandcroft. She'll be here at the bottom of the hour to bring us news from our fair city's streets and beyond. And, between, I'll intersperse the monologue with bits and pieces of music and other fun stuff to keep your ear, dear listener from wandering too far from your good campus/community radio stalwart, CFUV.

Last Spring, Victoria's Gilbert and Sullivan Society staged The Mikado. Over the weekend, I rented Jonathan Miller's stage production of the same, starring Monty Python favourite, Eric Idle, playing Ko Ko the executioner. I find myself often humming Ko Ko's signature song while labouring through my day as a truck driver on the city's busy streets, along with Victoria's turn-signal challenged, cell phone chattering motorists. So, a rare dedication from Gorilla Radio to you, my dears driving and talking on the phone now as you listen to radio.
