The University of Victoria has witnessed massive changes over the ten plus years Gorilla Radio has broadcast from the basement of the Student Union Building. Enrollment is several times what it was in the last century; there are new faculties, new buildings, and increasingly, a new understanding of what universities should and could mean to the societies that host them. Last week, a loose affiliation of students and community members gathered to plant amidst the ample UVic lawnscape a garden. An uninvited presence on campus, the garden was quickly removed bu by the university lands management staff. Undeterred, the guerrilla gardeners planted a second garden, setting the stage for a showdown with university administrators.

Nick Montgomery is a member of that loose coalition, for now referred to as Food Not Lawns. He is among a growing number of citizens off and on campus who recognize the need for greater food security, and pushing for a more urgent effort towards meeting that goal. Nick Montgomery in the first half.

And; this past weekend the annual Golden Corporate Piggy Awards were held at the St. Anne's Academy. As ever, a spirited crowd came out to lambaste, lampoon, and lay open with humour the dark underbelly of the porcine operators pulling strings behind the abattoir that is our modern economic and social life. Getting into the sty with the corporate swine in the second half.

And; Victoria Street Newz publisher and CFUV broadcaster, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with some of what's going on on Victoria's streets.

But first, Nick Montgomery and staying off the grass with Food Not Lawns.
